16 Filippo Court, Highbury – a foothills masterpiece with the lot
A Highbury home offers a luxurious lifestyle, allowing you to holiday at home in a picturesque foothills locale.
Wayne and Amy built the home in 2013, designing the property to include all the features they wanted for their family.
“We wanted it to have a bit of a resort feel about it, but so you could still live in it and have it function as an open family home,” Wayne says. “We custom-designed it in collaboration with builders Serenity Homes.”

The Golden Grove house ‘everyone’ wanted
The home, which offers 453sqm of living space, features four bedrooms. The master is set on the lower level and has a large dressing room and an ensuite with a bath, a double shower and striking tilework. A study, which could also be used as a bedroom, is nearby and opens to a home office. The remaining two bedrooms are set on the upper floor near a rumpus room and both have their own walk-in robe and ensuite.
A home theatre with a projector and screen features on the ground floor, but the heart of the home is the open-plan kitchen, dining and family room flowing to a bar with a feature wine room. This whole space opens to an expansive alfresco area with an outdoor kitchen and a spa. It overlooks an inground pool and provides views over the neighbouring bushland.
“We’ve got two kids and it works brilliantly – we get our space and they get theirs and we’ve designed it so we can entertain there year round,” Wayne says.
“The position is amazing – it’s a private location because there’s only one way into it, and we chose this block because it’s on its own and it’s got views out to the park. We don’t really have a fence at the back so it feels like Linear Park is part of our backyard. At the end of the day it’s only 20 to 25 minutes into the city straight down North East Rd, so it’s great.”
Wayne says the couple spared no expense in creating their dream home, including quality fixtures and fittings like Caesarstone benchtops, a wood-fired pizza oven, marble tiles, 2Pac cabinetry and a home automation system.
“Everything is premium quality – we didn’t cut corners anywhere,” he says.
“With the flooring, that’s all travertine and is the same inside and out. Inside it’s polished, in the alfresco area it’s honed and by the pool it’s paved. So it’s all the same material from the same quarry and that gave the home a seamless look and really helped it flow smoothly.
“The bathroom has marble from Italy and the supplier actually ran out while we were building, so we had to wait about four months to get the same stone to finish it off properly.
“The cabinetry throughout is all custom made as well so, basically, anyone who buys it will just need to bring a lounge, a kitchen table and their beds – pretty much everything else is already here.”
Wayne says the home’s pool has proven more popular than expected, thanks to a new gas heater.
“That’s operated by smartphone which makes it easy to maintain – if I’m out, and it’s sitting at 25 degrees I can bump it up to 35 degrees in about three hours, so it’s quick to heat up and really user-friendly,” he says.
“We put that heater in about 18 months ago and have used it continuously ever since.”
Wayne says his family have loved their time in the home and is sure another family will love it just as much as his.
“We’ve renovated other homes in the past, each time doing what we wanted to create a place we’d love to be,” he says. “But we’re running out of things to do here so we’re looking to move on to another project.”
