A ‘60s-built Oakbank home on a 1298sqm allotment will give its new owners the best of rural living, says vendor Karin Illingworth.

Ms Illingworth and partner Darren Smith bought the 157 Onkaparinga Valley Rd property four years ago, attracted by its setting, space and opportunities to add their own touches.

“We were driving by one day to a friend’s house and saw this was open, had a look and fell in love with it,” she says. “The rest is history.”

Describing the property as being “a blank canvas” when they moved in, the couple have carried out extensive renovations to the home.

“It was basically just lino floors and white walls … it was needing a bit of love,” Ms Illingworth says.

The couple have since renovated the interior, transforming a study into a butler’s pantry, adding built-in cupboards and putting in an extensive outdoor entertaining area – complete with a kitchen, bar and solar-heated swimming pool.

The flexible four-bedroom home also has a front lounge and dining room with feature gas heater, a central kitchen with stainless steel appliances, and a rear family room overlooking the backyard and adjacent one of the bedrooms – providing either a perfect teenage retreat, guest room or home office.

With the Oakbank Area School just across the road and within easy walking distance of local shops and hotels, the property will be perfect for growing families, Ms Illingworth says.

“Everyone who’s visited us comments on how the home has such a relaxed vibe to it,” she says. “It would be a great home for a family who is looking for a bit of space.”

The property is on the market with Harcourts Adelaide Hills and has an asking price of $579,000. Offers close Wednesday, July 24, at noon.
