AREC 2019: Why this is the year to attend

Agents might be feeling the pinch of the property downturn but AREC organisers say they will do what they can to help them attend the conference.

A property market downturn and some of the most challenging conditions the real estate sector has experienced are why the Australasian Real Estate Conference 2019 could be the most pivotal in its 22-year history.

However, with the cooling market comes less income for many agents, some of which were struggling to find the extra cash to fund the two-day conference.

AREC will be held on the Gold Coast on June 2 and 3.

Organisers have this year introduced payment plans to ensure everyone has an equal chance to attend and so all agents can learn how to navigate the current climate.

Total Real Estate Training (TRET) general manager and organiser of AREC Nichola Byrne said this year the conference was aimed at helping agents survive and then thrive in the cooler market.

“No doubt the industry has been faced with a more subdued property market over the last 12 months (and) agents have experienced lower listing levels,” she said.

“Agents that have navigated through previous markets with similar conditions, that have weathered the storm can offer so many valuable insights and knowledge about how to handle the current market conditions.

“Speakers like Michael Pallier on creating a referral-based business and Scott Dutton on the art of holding difficult conversations, plus the networking opportunities that AREC provides for conversations with agents from across Australasia make it a learning opportunity committed agents should not miss,” she said.

Ms Byrne said the payment plan option would mean no one missed out.

“In my eight years with TRET this has been the most challenging market to navigate due to not only market conditions but by-elections and federal elections causing uncertainty,” she said.

“We understand the current market conditions are having an effect on cash flow resources for some agents. We have listened to our audience and therefore have introduced the payment plan option to help combat this.

“ In this market we believe in the need to educate and future proof yourself in order to survive and thrive and by having this as an option should help to facilitate this.”
