It’s the age-old question, ‘to buy or to build?’ The answer is unique to circumstance, but in the case of
74-year-old Beverly Richards, building has been key to the best location.

She said she chose to build instead of buying an established home because she felt safer. “I’m building a three-bedroom house, with one bathroom and an open area for the lounge and dining area,” Ms Richards said.

“It’s on a corner block overlooking the park. It was a bit more expensive but I decided it was worth it to be comfortable with where I was living.

“The areas where I looked at existing houses didn’t make me feel safe, and when I looked at Greater Ascot, I just felt so comfortable there, It’s a lovely neighbourhood.”

Ms Richards said the building process had been easy, and she had been able to make all the changes she wanted.

“Anything that I’ve wanted to change about the design or build, there has been no problems with. It’s just been so easy,” she said. “I wanted enough space for my daughter to come and stay with me, and a guest room for my grandchildren.

“There were two bathrooms in the original design but I decided to take one out because I wouldn’t need both.”

Next Level Land Marketing sales agent Jess Baker said convenient location was a major factor for Ms Richards when choosing what to buy.

“After coming off a larger block on the outskirts of town, Beverly wanted to be closer to amenities and downsize to something more manageable,” Ms Baker said.

“Greater Ascot has the advantage of Laneway Living, where rear entry and minimal direct neighbours provide a spacious feeling in a compact setting.
“Beverly loved the fact the homesite overlooked the park directly across the road.”

AP Williams new home and design consultant Deb Attlee agreed that location was hard to compromise on once Ms Richards had decided on it.

“At one stage, we were trying to bring the price down but no other position was as lovely,” Ms Attlee said.

“Bev had fallen in love with the land and we had designed a home that she just loved.”
