Donvale dream garage: Custom pad a rev-head’s dream
Car lovers should rev their engines and take a drive down to this motor-mad house in Donvale.
After almost 30 years, retired engineer Rob Brownrigg is selling the house he decked out with a six-car garage housing his beloved vintage cars.
The 86-year-old and his partner Pat are switching lanes and selling 76 Woodhouse Rd, which has a price guide of $1.7-$1.87 million.

Their workshop is on show, containing Mr Brownrigg’s pride and joy: a 1928 Riley Nine Brooklands raced by Barny Gentry in seven Australian Grand Prix between 1928 and 1937.
“I bought that as a wreck and I restored it,” Mr Brownrigg said about the car, which he has raced in since 2004.
There’s also a 1937 Riley MPH Sprite, car hoist and a milling machine. While the equipment is not part of the sale, the sprightly amateur racer said he did plan on selling a couple of his vintage vehicles.
“We had a guy in the other day (at an open for inspection), he couldn’t believe the workshop and the full-size hoist,” Mr Brownrigg said.
“He was amazed and he wanted the milling machine included.”
The vendor said he’d been passionately working on cars since he was 17.
RT Edgar agent Alan Wang said buyers were being drawn to the thriving gardens, Canadian Oregon timber house and the garage.
“Some locals inspected the house just because they wanted to have a look at the cars,” he said.
The sale comes as the Real Estate Institute of Victoria labelled Donvale the city’s most consistent suburb, as the only area to achieve both quarterly and annual price growth in the past 12 months.
