Former federal MP David Feeney’s East Melbourne investment property wins vote of confidence

David Feeney has sold up in East Melbourne.

The campaign is finally over for former federal Labor politician David Feeney who has sold his luxe East Melbourne investment property in the same building where a $46 million penthouse has been listed.

The parkside apartment in the redeveloped Mercy Hospital building at 150 Clarendon St received a vote of confidence from a buyer.

Kay & Burton’s Monique Depierre said the two-bedroom property sold privately for an undisclosed price within the $4-$4.4 million price range.

The building at 150 Clarendon St, East Melbourne is very sought after.

She was unable to reveal any details about the buyer, who sealed a deal 83 days after the sales campaign began.

Ms Depierre said buyers from around the world had shown interest in the apartment. Some residents already living in the exclusive building had also inquired.

“There hasn’t been a park-facing apartment on the market for a long time,” Ms Depierre said.

Corelogic records show Mr Feeney and wife Liberty Sangar bought it for $2.875 million in 2007. The couple rented it out for $2350 a week in 2017, which was the same year Mr Feeney was caught up in the dual citizenship scandal.

Mr Feeney resigned last year when he was one of 15 sitting politicians in breach of the Constitution relating to citizenship status.

He also courted controversy campaigning for changes to negative gearing after failing to disclose a multimillion-dollar Northcote investment property to the parliamentary Register of Members’ Interests. His East Melbourne investment had been disclosed to parliament.

The apartment boasted views to the Fitzroy Gardens and CBD from every room and a 25sq m terrace. A library, marble kitchen and 3m-high ceilings all added to the home’s appeal.
