The former home of Beverley Sutherland-Smith has seen better days.

Once a thriving vision of domestic bliss, the former home of Beverley Sutherland-Smith lies in ruin.

The four-bedroom house on a 2220sq m block at 29 Regent St, Mt Waverley once hosted the likes of boxer George Foreman, as fundraisers, garden open days and cooking classes had visitors coming and going.

But after Ms Sutherland-Smith opened a Prahran-based cafe and cooking school, she sold her much-loved home for $3.3 million in June 2015, according to CoreLogic.

29 Regent St, Mt Waverley has been on the market for almost 600 days.

Ms Sutherland-Smith’s garden was bulldozed.

“It was too far away,” Ms Sutherland-Smith told the Herald Sun.

She said the buyer had since attempted to gain Monash Council approval to build townhouses on the site several times, all of which were rebuffed.

“I can’t understand why they bulldozed the gardens,” Ms Sutherland-Smith said.

“It was a very beautiful garden — they bulldozed it … and if you don’t maintain the swimming pool and tennis court, people start to visualise how much it costs.”

“It’s a bit of a shame to see it reduced to this. As a gardener, I hate to see that it was wasted.”

The tennis court has been neglected.

Ms Sutherland-Smith used to hold open days in her thriving garden.

The home used to host cooking classes.

But it was purchased with townhouse development in mind in 2015.

She said George Foreman, who filmed an advertisement for his lean grill at the Mt Waverley property, came with a large entourage of security and publicity people.

“He was very, very pleasant — we were told beforehand what not to mention,” Ms Sutherland-Smith said.

“I cooked him lunch and we sat down and talked.”

The property, which has been on the market for almost 600 days, has an asking price of $2.88-$3.168 million, short of the 2015 sale price.

The 2220sq m property has price aims of $2.88-$3.168 million.

Harcourts Judd White agent Peter See declined to comment on the vendor, but said the agency was targeting both developers and owner occupiers with the house.

“What is of the past does not influence the present,” Mr See said.

“As to whether people are attracted to buy because such a renowned character in the cooking world has lived there before or not, the percentage is not great but there are people who have made passing comments.”

Mr See said the block’s size made it a rare offering in the area.

The Mt Waverley property is seeking expressions of interest until October 8.
