Get back to nature without venturing too far from the city
A Clarendon home offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, and was designed to be at one with the picturesque locale it inhabits.
Hanako Eden had the home built five years ago after falling in love with its hilltop location and the tranquillity it offered.
Now this backyard takes some beating …
Absolute beachfront priced well under $600K
New build inspiration: Affordable family living
“I love the peacefulness of the countryside and being out in nature and wanted to use earthy materials and create a home that really embraced indoor and outdoor living,” Ms Eden says. “We didn’t want to be too far from the city either, so it’s on the outskirts of suburbia, but you still get amazing seclusion.
“We look out over our horses and there are heaps of koalas and kangaroos that visit, so you feel like you’re out bush but you’re close to the city.
“A lot of it is constructed out of rammed earth and we’ve used old jetty pylons and reclaimed jarrah hardwood and a lot of cedar, so we’ve gone for earthy materials as much as possible.
“Sustainability was also at the front of our mind, and we wanted to have a comfortable and luxurious home but be conscious of making sure it was as sustainable as possible.”
The home is set on a 15.175ha allotment and has four bedrooms, a rumpus room, an office, an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, and ample space for outdoor entertainment. Ms Eden says it will be sad to say goodbye to her hilltop hideaway, and will miss the home she says everyone who visits falls in love with.
