QUICK-fire bidding from six parties drove home the desirability of a property auctioned in one of Herne Hill’s popular streets on Saturday.

The leafy location and character of 16 Panorama Rd had buyers from all walks of life scrambling for the keys.

But after missing out at several previous auctions Louise Darbyshire and her partner weren’t going to let this one get away.

The Geelong couple paid $677,000 for the three-bedroom house in a result that beat price expectations by almost $40,000.

Ms Darbyshire said they had been searching for the right house for a long time.

“We have missed out at a few other auctions,” she said.

Bidding for the 580sq m property opened at $550,000 and at times McGrath, Geelong agent Will Ainsworth fielded simultaneous bids from the crowd as offers were called out.

Mr Ainsworth put the popularity of the house down the leafy location and X-factor.

The north-facing kitchen/dining area overlooks the backyard.

“There are some houses you just walk into and you can’t put your finger on it, it’s just the feel,” he said.

“It just feels like a place you want to be.”

He said unlike many properties of a similar era this one had two living areas, plus a renovated kitchen and bathroom.
