Inside architect Nick Tobias and Miranda Darling’s $20m North Bondi dream home
There’s only one thing better than an architect-designed home and that’s an architect’s own designer home. You can be sure everything will be perfect.
When Nick Tobias designed this beautiful four-bedroom, three-bathroom home with double garage — completed three years ago — he did so with wife Miranda Darling, a writer, and his two sons in mind.
The property, at 124 Brighton Boulevard on North Bondi’s Ben Buckler, is set to go to auction on April 2 through Raine and Horne Double Bay’s Ric Serrao and Alex Lyons with a $20m price guide.

The boys have separate spaces for their bedrooms, but a shared play area where the plaster stucco walls can be easily wiped clean. There’s also a balcony so they can play outside when it’s raining.
And Tobias has built a “craft” room downstairs, because like their talented parents, they’re very creative.
The top two levels of the three-level home have breathtaking views across the entire stretch of Bondi Beach to Icebergs.
As Serrao says: “It’s rare to get a house in this location that has commanding beach views from both levels and with such easy access to the sand.”
The views can never be interrupted — a building across the road had a DA refused and the park is beyond that.
The home is both private and full of sunlight and there’s practical terrazzo floors on the entertainment level with underfloor hydronic heating.
The rear dining room off the kitchen opens to a north-facing courtyard garden, designed by Daniel Baffsky of 360 Degrees, with a heated plunge pool.
The kitchen has a Wolf gas cooker, Zip tap and the joinery is by Stylewood. There’s an island bench, butler’s pantry and ample storage.
USM room dividers separate the living areas, providing space for books and artefacts while maintaining the view.
The front lounge, with gas fireplace, opens to the terrace and that amazing view.
The same goes for the master suite and study upstairs, which features a hot tub on its terrace.
There’s his and hers built-ins, a Norwegian Rose marble ensuite with a Kaldewai bath and twin shower.
The fourth guest bedroom features custom library shelving.
Other highlights are the theatre with comfortable lounges to stretch out on and the sauna.
For Tobias and Darling, it’s off to the next project.
