Architectural beauty — 5 Plunkett Rd, Mosman.

Visitors to this prized home above Balmoral often remark that the ambience and outlook feels like the Amalfi coast in Italy.

There has always been something classically European about Balmoral, and this property enjoys the best of the “bellissimo scenario”.

Family-friendly suburb takes off

The home, at 5 Plunkett Rd, Mosman, has a dress circle position — privately removed from the immediate bustle of Balmoral and with sufficient elevation to command a 180-degree view, from the Balmoral slopes to the beach and across the harbour to Manly.

What a view!

The pool.

The view by night.

However, this striking contemporary home is not dependent on the view to impress. It was designed by acclaimed architect Luigi Rosselli — another Italian connection as he was born and raised in Milan.

He has designed a number of notable houses in Mosman including The Books House.

This Plunkett Rd home has all the Rosselli hallmarks, including a sandstone apron, soft sculptural curves and bespoke joinery throughout.

The interior space and alfresco areas respond perfectly to the north aspect and view.

Edgy design.

Street presence.

Miranda Bacon and husband Aaron bought the property in 2002 and lived in an old home on the site before commissioning Rosselli to design a new family home in 2012.

Ms Bacon doesn’t mince words about the house.

“It’s a beautiful house, just gorgeous — we’d like to buy it back one day,” she said.

Dine with a view.

The main bedroom has a balcony and a view.

The couple feel privileged to live in a Rosselli house, plus they love being only a few minutes’ walk to the beach.

“People say they feel like they’re on the Amalfi coast,” she said. “The house is so light and airy — beautiful in summer and in winter.”

The couple also love the separate zones in the house, the plethora of discrete storage and the timeless finishes, from American oak to limestone floors.

Ms Bacon’s favourite spot is the large marble island bench in the kitchen where she can clearly see the view and the pool.

The mosaic-tiled pool, tucked privately into the site is her husband’s favourite retreat.

The property is for sale by expressions of interest, closing 10am, October 29, if not sold before. The price guide is $14,000,000. For more information, contact Claudia Portale, at McGrath Estate Agents Mosman, or Tim Foote, of Belle Property Mosman.
