Most in-demand suburbs and AFL rookies

At 6:30pm tonight, a selection of rookies will find out if their dreams of playing in the AFL will come true if they’re picked in the mid-season draft.

Usually players and clubs have to wait until the end of the year, but 2019 marks the first mid-season draft since 1993 and there are some frontrunners in the mix.

We’ll find out tonight who the most in-demand rookies are, but here is a look at the most in-demand suburbs from the competition’s key clubs.

Sam Lowson

The 22-year old Coburg player has been is said to be on North Melbourne’s shopping list as a much-needed small forward.

North Melbourne itself is also popular with buyers ranking as the 77th most in-demand suburb in Victoria out of 764 suburbs. It has a median sale price of $1,135,000.

There is a lot to like about North Melbourne including its close proximity to the city and its many parks where Lowson could have a good kick of the footy in his new club’s suburb.

Kyle Dunkley

Midfielder Kyle Dunkley is said be on Carlton’s  wish list. The 18-year-old brother of Western Bulldog Josh Dunkley has shown impressive form with various clubs plus he’s put in strong performances in the NAB League, VFL and Young Guns games.

Carlton is also in demand with buyers, ranking as the ninth most popular suburb in Victoria out of the 764 suburbs. The median price of a house here is $1,306,000 and the architecture is dominated by double-storey terrace houses with heritage facades.

There’s a lot Dunkley could enjoy about his new club’s HQ including vibrant Lygon street and Carlton Gardens for morning runs before the game.

Cody Hirst

It’s rumoured that four clubs are interested in signing Eastern Ranges ball-winner Cody Hirst. He was unable to be drafted in 2018 due to injury, but this is his year with Sydney believed to be the frontrunner.

In Sydney, the most in-demand suburb among buyers is Freshwater out of 1,195 suburbs across New South Wales. Houses don’t come cheap in this waterside neighbourhood which has a median sale price of $2,290,000.

However, Hirst’s lifestyle here would be enviable, what with a morning surf at the beach and stops at trendy cafes that are on offer in this prestige suburb.
