PLANS are in place to demolish and replace an existing home in one of Townsville’s character residential zones.

Owners of the property Paul and Belinda Goldsworthy, through BNC Planning, lodged a development application with Townsville City Council in March to fully demolish the highset house on 150 Eyre St in North Ward.

A new “single storey dwelling architecturally designed in accordance with the Character

residential zone” will replace the existing home.

According to the two-bedroom home near Jezzine Barracks and The Strand with views of Castle Hill sold or $540,000 in October.

It sits in a housing precinct made up of mostly 1960s Defence housing and housing commission homes.

The new owners wish to build a four-bedroom home with a pool and rumpus room in its place.

Reports showed the existing building was in a state of structural disrepair.

“The applicant strongly believes that the new dwelling will better contribute to the desired character outcomes of the precinct,” the application said.

Public notifications for the development application have closed.

Townsville City Council have approved the building of 290 houses this financial year, down from 621 in the previous year.
