Old homes with original fittings are always in demand in FNQ

WOOD floors, casement windows, pastels, coloured carpet and patterned wallpaper — they just don’t make homes like they used to.

Retro homes aren’t the norm but there are a few floating around the Far North that could be just the thing a modern buyer is looking for.

Whether they’re looking for a home with charm and character to provide a talking point at dinner parties or for something with good bones on which to build and buff up, there are a few options on the market at the moment.

Elite Real Estate Services’ Karl Latham said most buyers keen on such properties were looking for something to renovate and sell on for a profit later.

Cairns Property Office Redlynch agent Oliver Voss agreed and said the gorgeous, art-deco home for sale at 47 Mary St, East Innisfail, was “perfect for someone handy on the tools who has vision and can recognise the potential of this original dwelling”.

But buyers will probably be happy to leave 54 Collinson St, Westcourt, just as it is.

The three-bedroom lowset home has tulip oak timber flooring and a sublime kitchen which retains old-school cupboards and shelves.

The bathroom has been renovated but the classic Queenslander casement windows add the character which can be found all through the property.
