Original Woodend cottage appeals to a new type of buyer
One of Woodend’s original cottages is set to appeal to a new type of buyer, as commuters flock to the Macedon Ranges’ town.
Built in the 1860s, 2 Jeffreys St comes with an asking price of $1.35 million.
Woodend’s median price is $700,000, having more than doubled in the last three years, according to CoreLogic data.
“It’s a beautiful old property that one,” Keatings Real Estate director Peter Wood said.
“It’s been kept in pretty much original condition, they’ve added a couple of bathrooms over time and a beautiful sun room out the back.”

Rising to prominence as the main thoroughfare through the infamous Black Forest for gold-rush fortune seekers in the 1850s, Woodend became an agricultural centre before urban sprawl placed it within touching distance of Melbourne.
“It used to be a bit of a farm town, I suppose — now it’s more gentrified and we’ve got a lot of commuters,” Mr Wood said.
“It sort of followed on from what’s happened up at Mt Macedon — there’s some real prestige properties up there.”
With several new schools opening recently, Mr Wood said commuters wanting to escape the city were casting their eyes towards the town just eight kilometres from Hanging Rock.
The vendors at the property are downsizing locally.
“When you walk inside, it’s all original but it’s all pristine, they’ve kept everything in original form but with nice upcycled furnishings, just to keep the originality,” Mr Wood said.
