Suburb spotlight on St Marys
If it’s a family-friendly lifestyle you’re looking for with great access to nearby shops, St Marys has you covered, local resident Eline says.
She and her husband Caine moved there in 2011, originally renting and later buying their own home in Auricchio Ave.
“I’m from Amsterdam and hadn’t lived in Australia, and my husband knew somebody in the area so we thought it was a good choice because it was between the surf and the city – my husband is a massive surfer,” Eline says.
“We could also get quickly onto the Southern Expressway or into the city via Goodwood Rd or South Rd. We decided St Marys was definitely the area we loved and when the property that we’re in now came up – backing onto the St Marys park and having a view over a beautiful reserve – that was it for us, it was a no-brainer.”

The suburb’s seen some regeneration in recent years, but one thing that hasn’t changed is its convenience, Eline says.
“It’s in the middle of some pretty significant landmarks – we’ve got Flinders University and Medical Centre about a five-minute drive, TAFE about 1km away, we can walk to Pasadena Green and we back onto Kenilworth Football Club which is getting new clubrooms and a large nature play playground that we can access via our back gate,” she says. “Then over Ayliffes Rd we have Shepherds Hill Recreation Park, so it’s a great suburb if you want an active lifestyle.”
The couple are now selling their 29 Auricchio Ave home of six years in favour of a sea-change.
“The council have really improved things in recent years,” Eline says. “We’ve really loved our time here.”
Fox Real Estate agent Rachael Pavli, who is selling the family’s home, says St Marys offers great value and appeals to a range of buyers.
“It’s attracting first homebuyers, downsizers, young families and older families,” she says.
“Growth wise, if you look back on the past five years you’ll certainly see a consistent value increase year on year.”
