Mark talks to builder Jason Charles about not wanting Jesse in his house to do some painting.

Battlelines were drawn the moment contestants on The Block denied Mitch and Mark’s rooftop spa.

The stylish grandads decided to draw the line and retreat into their Block bubble and focus on their own renovation and no one else.

Their Hipages builder Jason Charles, of Charles Bro Building Contractors, said all the contestants would help unload materials on the site together but the boys would then retreat.

Mr Charles said the boys were great mates with neighbours Tess and Luke but that friendship had soured after the spa debacle.

“There was also an interview on radio with Tess and Luke saying they didn’t need grandads in their life, it wasn’t great,” he said.

And, it is not just Tess and Luke that the boys are staying away from.

The boys narrowly missed out on the win.

Mr Charles said in week three he got one of his waterproofers to come in on a day off to help Jesse and Mel in house five in return for four hours of painting.

“Jesse did a little bit of corking but still owed me two hours of painting, but we let it go in the end as the boys didn’t want him in their house,” he said.

Builder Jason Charles talks to Jesse about repaying a favour.

As to Jesse’s claim that he allowed Charles Bro Building Contractors to work for Mitch and Mark after interviewing them to be his own builder, Mr Charles said that wasn’t the case.

“Mitch and Mark and Jesse and Mel both contacted me to come on board as their builder, I turned up to site to meet both, Jesse and Mel were busy so we met the boys and loved them,” he said.

“It was so much fun with them and we enjoyed ourselves.”

While there may be tensions between contestants, that is not the case with the tradies.

Mr Charles said they got on really well with other tradies working on the site.

“A lot were from the northern suburbs; it was a good opportunity to meet them,” he said.
