The Block 2019 episodes 15 and 16 recap: What made Mitch snap?
It’s main bathroom week, so that means we’re finding out more about waterproofing than we ever cared to know.
It has to be done by Wednesday, so when some jerk walks all over Matt and El’ise’s still drying surface even a casual Block watcher will know it will need to be redone, what with Keith and Dan poring over every imperfection like diamond valuers.
: Episode 14 recap: Jesse and Keith’s blow up
Block favourites Bec and George reveal their latest reno
But tonight’s fireworks aren’t about the boot-wearing oaf.
They come when Jesse and Mel call a body corporate meeting to complain about the fact they are always last to have structural building work done. This prompts Mitch to say “Jesse” approximately 37 times in a row while pointing his finger.
According to Mitch, Jesse and Mel are mistaken about their victimhood. Tess could not be happier.
“I have been waiting for some serious drama and I didn’t want it to end,” she says, foreshadowing a possible future career as a Block producer. “I’ve been waiting four weeks for something to happen, just something.”
She then uses the body corporate meeting to complain about how much she’s been paying her tradies.
“That’s not a body corporate issue,” Jesse correctly says later. “Get better at negotiating.”
But, like most of the drama so far this season, it fizzled out with the unwelcome introduction of some reasonableness and fair-mindedness.
The teams agreed to a weekly meeting with Keith to sort out the order of works and ended negotiations with a frankly disappointing group hug. That’s not what we’re here for, guys.
Then, since it’s midweek on the Block, it’s time for an annoying challenge. The teams have to decorate a room in what looks like an empty display home using as little as possible of $3000 given to them by former Olympic pole vaulter turned property dude Steve Hooker. Mitch, wearing shorts Warwick Capper would consider a bit much, takes the budget so seriously he haggles at St Vinnies. St Vinnies!
Tess and Luke take an accidental tour of all the High streets in Melbourne and seem shocked at the idea there could be more than one. They arrive with half an hour to do their room, and barely unpack their purchases.
Andy and Deb take out the win with their nursery. It’s some welcome cash, but as the only team who aren’t plotting to add a rooftop terrace to their plans, it’s the others that need it most.
Mitch and Mark are even planning a plunge pool up there — an idea that Shelley Craft says would win them the Block if they finished it, but lose them if they don’t.
Luke gets a sponsored barbecue for his 30th, and wins Dan’s “cheer up a Block contestant” prize, getting his tradies paid for the day.

Jesse is livid, just for a change. His birthday fell on the previous Sunday but he got doughnuts.
So he decides to try and cheer himself up with another stoush with Keith, something about some stumps. And once again, gets nowhere.
“It doesn’t pay to argue all the time,” Keith tells him, advice that Jesse will absolutely not take on board.
Matt and El’ise continue to have a mare. Their tiles don’t fit, their bath might be too heavy and their basin is too deep and soon El’ise is weeping on the Tullamarine Freeway.
