The house with a west wing and a Balinese backyard
THEY swapped the bustle of Wavell Heights for this leafy oasis in Ferny Hills.
Now Dave Cameron and Bernadette Logan are off on a sea change and are relocating to north of Newcastle in New South Wales.
That means the Fernlands Estate house at 30 Woodtop Court, Ferny Hills is back on the market after nine years, complete with its own west wing.

“We have lots of overseas and interstate visitors and family so we’ve got that whole downstairs area that they can make their own.” Mr Cameron said.
“We call it the west wing which sounds bizarre, but it’s this completely self-contained western wing, it’s quite separate to the rest of the house.”
As is the master suite which occupies the entire top floor with attic access.
“The house itself is just such a beautiful place to live,” Ms Logan said.
“The inside was done, so we did the outside to suit our personality.
“We spent a lot of time in Vanuatu and Fiji so we had a definite idea of what we wanted to fit that space in the back corner.”
Inspired by the communal Vanuatu nakamal buildings, they designed a Balinese hut above the pool area, and used landscaping to create a private screen from neighbours.

“You’re not overlooked in the back and you can see over the house.”
With the west wing making an ideal teenagers retreat, they recommend their home to families with older children or people wanting a resort-style entertainer.
“It’s fabulous to work in and social and so easy to keep clean,” Ms Logan said.
“We are all busy in our lives and when you come through you just want a glass of something in your hand and to relax.
“It’s a social and a very private place.”
